Rethinking Bathroom Accessibility

I had the incredible opportunity to attend a series given by Julie Sawchuk of Sawchuk Accessible Solutions.  She called the series Toilet Tuesdays Live.  HealthCraft was a proud sponsor of the series.

Julie is an educator and an accessibility strategist. She consults with architects, designers, builders, and facilities managers.  She sits on many accessibility focused committees and has achieved many honours as an advocate for accessibility.  She knows that learning how to create accessible spaces can be overwhelming, but she teaches simple solutions that can make a massive difference.  By simplifying accessibility, she helps us to understand how each design choice can offer more safety, dignity, and independence.

Her Toilet Tuesdays Live series focused mainly on public and commercial washrooms, the minimum accessibility requirements as well as the ideal features to include.  I was honoured to be a guest speaker on episode 6 which focused on residential bathrooms.  The focus shifted from standardized recommendations and building codes to more aging in place and personalized solutions for individuals in their own home.

Julie has kindly agreed that we can share this episode with you here on our website.
